The Guardians Branch Out

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 is set to debut on silver screens across the nation on May 5th, 2017. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Marvel is partnering with fans on the internet and the Disney Conservation Fund to plant trees to recognize one of its adorable characters, baby Groot.

How this will work is that from April 18th to May 5th, fans can upload a video of themselves demonstrating their own version of how they do the Groot Dance Bomb on Instagram or Twitter along with using the hashtag #GrootDanceBomb A pretty neat way to combat a social problem and spreading the legacy of the Marvel character.

How about the people who want to make a difference and contribute but, are camera shy? No worries, for those who are not comfortable with the dance challenge, they can share YouTuber D-Trix’s video on YouTube or Facebook and it will also be counted towards the cause.

For each video or share, the Disney Conservation Fund and Marvel will be donating $1 to The Nature Conservancy and a tree will be planted. The minimum that Marvel will donate is $50,000 and a maximum of $250,000, or the equivalent of a quarter of a million trees.

Executive Vice President, Global Licensing, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Josh Silverman explained that Groot was one of the break-out characters from Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy, and has quickly become a fan favorite.

“As we launch the toy line for the new movie, we’re excited to share the #GrootDancebomb challenge combining a little bit of fun and a little bit of doing good— just like the Guardians themselves,” Silverman explained.

This is a good example of what corporate social responsibility consists of. Disney and Marvel are seeking to be pro-active in a social problem that they are wanting to be solved as well as maintaining its reputation as a good corporate citizen.
